Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency in Australia1 with over a million Australians estimated to be living with iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia.2 This activity aims to advance your knowledge of the identification and management of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia, with a focus on optimising patient's use of oral iron therapies.

After completing this activity, you will be able to:

  • Identify patients at high risk of having iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia
  • Evaluate laboratory results to support the diagnosis iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia
  • Determine when it is appropriate to manage iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia with oral or intravenous iron therapy
  • Explain differences between oral iron formulations for the management of iron deficiency
  • Support patient adherence to oral iron therapies
